Wil‑U Family Spotlight: Getting to know CSSEF (Chloe and Sophie’s Special Ear Fund)

Chloe and Sophie’s Special Ear Fund (CSSEF) is a charity with a big heart and a clear mission: to brighten the lives of Deaf Children. Founded by the Jackson family, CSSEF has been championing Deaf awareness, support and inclusion for more than a decade, growing from a local passion project into a registered charity making a real impact.

From a Personal Challenge to Community Support

What began as a family’s response to the challenges faced by sisters Chloe and Sophie quickly evolved into something bigger. Karen and Brian Jackson wanted to do whatever they could to help their daughters and soon realised other children could benefit too. With support from friends, family and the local community, CSSEF was launched to provide practical help and raise awareness for Deaf children.

Officially becoming a registered charity in March 2013, CSSEF set out to make a difference not just for Chloe and Sophie, but for Deaf children within their community.

Supporting  Deaf Children in Everyday Life

CSSEF’s work goes beyond fundraising; it’s about creating opportunities and offering support that can change day-to-day experiences:

• Providing equipment and resources that help deaf children access education more fully, both in school and at home.
• Raising deaf awareness in communities so that others understand and support children with hearing loss.
• Supporting emotional wellbeing through activities, peer opportunities and inclusive events that bring children together.
• Offering grants and practical services including advocacy, advice and information for families navigating hearing challenges.

Helping children thrive

By combining advocacy, support services and meaningful experiences, CSSEF focuses on boosting well-being, reducing isolation and empowering Deaf children to be their best selves. Their work is a testament to how personal experience can grow into purpose-driven change for many lives.

Whether it’s helping a Deaf child within school or bringing families together through Deaf awareness activities, CSSEF continues to carry forward a mission rooted in care, compassion and community.
