This November, we are in support of Movember and the vital conversations it sparks around men’s health, from mental wellbeing to cancer awareness.
Our Managing Director, Chris Hardy, has fully embraced the Movember spirit this year. Not only is he nurturing a moustache (of questionable elegance in the early stages), but he’s also taking on two challenges to help raise awareness and spark conversations.
Challenge #1: MoRunning
MoRunning is the UK’s biggest moustache-themed running series. It is part fun run, part community celebration, and all in support of Movember.
Chris took part this year with his family, running alongside his son, Lewis (who is almost sporting a moustache of his own). What could have been an ordinary chilly November morning turned into something much more meaningful. Warm-ups with a crowd of hundreds, moustached headbands as far as the eye could see, and a brilliant sense of shared purpose.
Yes, the moustache-shaped medal is fantastic, but the real highlight was spending quality time together while supporting a cause that affects millions of men and families. Sometimes raising awareness begins with simply showing up and doing it together.
Challenge #2: The Big Ballsy 100K
Next up for Chris is The Big Ballsy 100K running challenge, a month-long mission to complete 100 kilometres while raising awareness of testicular cancer with The Robin Cancer Trust.
This challenge sheds light on something many men find difficult to discuss. Testicular cancer is the most common cancer in men aged 15 to 49, and early detection can save lives. The Robin Cancer Trust does incredible work educating young men about the signs, symptoms, and the importance of regular self-checks. These conversations truly make a difference.
Throughout November, Chris will be clocking up kilometres in all conditions:
- Dark frosty mornings
- Rainy lunch breaks
- “Who came up with this idea!” evenings
- And the occasional moment of triumph
Every kilometre helps spread an important message. Men’s health matters, and talking about it matters even more.
There is also a novelty medal waiting at the end, and yes, he absolutely wants it.
Why We’re Taking Part
Movember is about saving lives through early intervention, awareness, and open conversation. If a moustache, a run, or a long, muddy kilometre can encourage even one conversation that wouldn’t have happened otherwise, then it’s worth every hair, step, and awkward growth stage.
We’re proud to support these efforts, proud of Chris for stepping up (and running lots of steps), and proud to help raise awareness across our Wil-U community.
