North London Hospice reaches Gift Aid milestone with Wil-U | Wil-U

Reaching an incredible milestone, over 50,000 people have now signed up for Gift Aid across North London Hospice shops; four times the number they had just a year ago. This enormous boost in the value of donated goods means they are able to raise even more funds at no extra cost to their supporters.

Diving into the figures, Gift Aid sales are now 66% up for the five months to August 2025, compared to the same period two years ago. This is enough to fund five nurses for nearly half the year. If they continue along this trend through the year, it will generate over £350,000 in income for the charity.

Investment in a new till system has made signing up and declaring Gift Aid easier. But it is the staff and volunteers across their shops who have made huge strides in encouraging donors to come forward, and the overall result for the hospice is truly remarkable.

Donating through Gift Aid means the hospice receives an extra 25% from the government, so if someone donated £400 of stock to them, they would claim an extra £100 in Gift Aid (once the shop had sold the goods) from HMRC.

The caveats are that the donor must be a taxpayer, the money or goods being donated must belong to them, and the tax they have paid must be more than the value of the donations. Once you have signed your Gift Aid declaration, it is valid for all future gifts and for any gifts you have made to them in the 4 years before signing the declaration.

Have you registered for Gift Aid, or do you know someone who donates to North London Hospice who is not currently signed up? It's so easy to do.

You can register at any of the North London Hospice shops or at reception in Woodside Avenue, where their volunteers can print out Gift Aid stickers for your donations showing your registered number. And don't forget you can drop off your stickered donation bags in the box outside our canteen.
